Aunt Emma (YOUNG) worked in the laundry of the Public School in Felsted village, and had about two and a half to three miles to walk each way every day. In the summer she would cut across the fields saving much time and energy. She was a strange little woman, deformed almost, her legs did not seem to have grown properly and yet her face was big boned. Unfortunately she always chose check coats with big patch pockets and was known as "all arse and pockets" by the young men and some neighbours.21
One day Aunt Emma took in a lodger, a man called George Woodward. He swept little Aunt Emma off her feet and married her. It was a big mistake, he treated her badly but she stood by him. He died first and not long after Aunt Emma died, of cancer(?).21
SHe died in 1953, "very grieved, poor sould", Kathleen Young's diaries. |
